Take Home Chef’ in town to film four episodes

Rey Gonzales, a paramedic with the Santa Fe Fire Department, prepared a surprise dinner for a firefighting crew Friday afternoon. The meal was taped for an episode of the TV program Take Home Chef at Casa de Estrellas, an East Marcy Street hotel.

Curtis Stone, the hunky Australian host of the half-hour reality cooking show on TLC, was in Santa Fe this week to videotape four episodes of the program. On Tuesday, the crew was at Santa Fe Farmers Market buying feta cheese from Les Harrison of Sweetwoods Dairy. “They were putting together a Greek dish, so I sold them some feta cheese,” he said.

In a typical Take Home Chef, Stone intercepts someone (often an attractive young woman) at a grocery, drives home with the person and cooks dinner for her or him. Recent menus have included lobster in creamy cocktail sauce, tapas, mango bellinis and chocolate-dipped strawberries.

One item on the menu for Gonzales was the Northern New Mexico favorite carne adovada, but the show’s producers were tight-lipped about others.

Stone has worked as a chef in his hometown of Melbourne as well as in London (Mirabelle, Quo Vadis, Bluebird Club). In 2002, he filmed the series Dinner in a Box for British television.
