The family of David Giba is deeply saddened by the fact that The New Mexican has chosen to publish what was intended by David Giba to be a private note to his family and friends. The New Mexican has published what we consider to be misleading and false information about David and his suspected role in local crimes, many of which David could not possibly have committed. Detective John Boerth, who has been in charge of the investigation, communicated to us that the police have no probable cause to believe that David was involved in any crimes in which there is DNA evidence. Consequently, contrary to what The New Mexican has reported, the police have no intention of obtaining a sample of David’s blood taken during the autopsy report so that DNA testing can be completed. We are deeply sorry for the pain that David caused to the individual to whom he admitted having exposed himself. We respectfully request that The New Mexican discontinue its reporting about this private matter and allow David’s family and friends to heal. — Family of David Giba
