FOSTER GRANDPARENT PROGRAMS: This program recruits seniors to work with children in classrooms at school, at Head Start or at a day-care center. Seniors provide guidance and support to students who are at risk of falling behind in their school work. In sum, the seniors fill the roll of grandparent to the at-risk student. Volunteers must be 60 years old or older and qualify by income for federal programs. A tax-free stipend of $2.65 an hour will be paid as well as $5 a week for mileage reimbursement.
