The New Mexican
December 20, 2006

The online replica of each day's The New Mexican (and the last 30 days!), called eNewMexican, is normally only available to home delivery subscribers, or to online-only subscribers (who enjoy a discount from the home delivery price). We have been working on a new system for managing your subscription online, and it's almost ready. So for just a few days more, you can enjoy your daily "paper" in the comfort of  home, WiFi cafe or office, by visiting the online page-for-page replica at www.enewmexican.com. No subscription, registration or password needed-- we're making it available free, but for only a few more days. For more detail on the differences between the FreeNewMexican and eNewMexican, and for instructions, see below.

Now in "beta" is a service that formats the Web replica for handheld devices that have Web access -- cellphones, Blackberries, Palm Treos and the like. Try it and let us know how it works. It's not quite finished yet -- hence the phrase beta -- but you should be able to use it. Visit eNewMexicanPDA.

FreeNewMexican requires no money from you -- just, for some areas, some basic demographic information when you register. As a free publication, it currently carries only a fraction of the news and opinion in the daily newspaper, whereas eNewMexican is as exact a replica of the print edition online, page for page, as we can make it.

Although the FreeNewMexican doesn't carry as much of the local news as the paper does, it does offer its own advantages: free access to the classifieds and the "display" ads from the newspaper, breaking news and updates throughout the day, deep resource guides and sets of links on important issues -- and it gives you our readers the opportunity to speak your mind on all the issues of the day, 24/7. All the topics at the left and across the top of this page are accessible from FreeNewMexican. To return to the home page, look to the left, and click Home Page!

Tips on using eNewMexican.com:

First, to reach it, click on the image of the newspaper at the left, above the Home Page link, or go straight to www.eNewMexican.com. But read this first! Click twice on a story or article to expand it to readable size in the right-hand window. Click the arrows at the top to turn the page, or use the dropdown list of page numbers to go straight to a particular page.

By using the date dropdown list, you can read any paper from the last 30 days. The search and advanced search features enable you to search by key word. And the dropdown list of other sites will take you to our other publications, including back to the free site.

Home delivery (and mail) subscribers to the paper edition can always get access to the eNewMexican at no extra charge, including while on vacation;  e-only subscriptions area available at a discount. If you are a current print subscriber and don't have your access to the e-edition set up, you'll first have to create an account on this free site as if you were not a subscriber (don't ask):
1. at the upper left of any page of freenewmexican click on Create an Account. (If it says "My Account | Log out" you can skip ahead to step 4.)
2. On the "Free and Quick Registration" page  look under Non-Subscribers and click Continue.
3. Fill out the short survey and create a password and submit.
4. Send an email to Michael Odza, Web Publisher with your name, address and phone number (all three, please),  and I will link your print account with your Web account promptly and let you know. (Yes, one day soon this will be an automated self-service process, we promise!)

To purchase a print plus e-subscription or an e-subscription only, contact our Circulation Department at 505-986-3010, or 1-800-873-3372.
