So what is a blog? It's an easy way to publish your thoughts on the Web and include links to other sites you find interesting or important--without knowing a stitch of programming or other Web skills. This bloglist contains staff blogs (not endorsed by or representing The New Mexican), other blogs from around New Mexico, and blogs we've set up on the site for our own readers (read on for details on how to get your own FreeNewMexican blog).
Note: some blogs below are hosted on outside Web sites that offer blogging tools available to anyone on the Web. This means that once you click, you're leaving us and going out on the World Wide (sometimes Wild) Web.
The New Mexican blogs:
New Media in New Mexico Where we document our efforts and ideas in community and online journalism. (Not hosted by The New Mexican.)
Other blogs and sites by New Mexican staff:.
Matlock Talks Water Environmental reporter Staci Matlock keeps tabs on the latest in water management and conservation issues.\
Stephen W. Terrell's blog Steve Terrell puts selected columns and additional
musings on music and politics and whatever else hits him. Look for his Legislature 2007 blog in January. (Not hosted by The New Mexican.)
http://www.donegalexpress.net Unix systems administrator and "recovering democrat" Tom Grassia maintains this diverse, eloquent blog. His spectrum runs from solid papal analysis to challenging local politicians to a motor stunt display. (Not hosted by The New Mexican.)
Kristen Davenport's Farm Blog Kristen Davenport, who is a freelance writer for the New Mexican, has a little farm up north in Taos County where she keeps rabbits, goats, chickens, kids, one husband and a boxcar grandma. She sells at the Santa Fe Farmer's Market most Saturdays. Remarkably non-political, mostly humor and random farm-based ramblings. (Not hosted by The New Mexican.)
Shirl Steward's blog Our web night-owl writes on a range of subjects. Some of her favorites are: important issues for women, local politics, righting social injustice, prison reform, environmental activism, the interworkings of the Santa Fe film production community and the local literary scene. Outside the New Mexican, Shirl is a children's book writer, poet, novelist, photographer, publicist, web designer and creative freelancer.
Matthew Asher's Blog: Matthew is a member on our late night web team. His freelance writing contributions can also be seen in the pages of Generation Next and occasionally in the Neighbors or Sports sections of the New Mexican. His blog will include a selection from these writings.

Thanks to Stefan, the film's US premiere was at the 2006 Santa Fe Film Festival. http://www.norumba.com Stefan Dill's music work site. (Not hosted by The New Mexican.)

It's purpose will be to change what is wrong and promote what is working by providing access, information, and support via the internet.

Reader blogs (external) These are blogs outside of the FreeNewMexican.com system by our regular readers:
Rubink Daniel Cooke sent us this rathter self-deprecating link: "Its mostly useless news and a few opinions but it does cover some art news and some Santa Fe/Eldorado/NM news as well".
http://bigblueglobe.blogspot.com/ Tom Hamman's concise and well photographed travel blog of the southwest, based in Santa Fe and spiralling outward. He also ventures as far afield as Antarctica and New Zealand.

Eideard Ed Campbell's full - scale blog.
Nava Ade Residents Reader Bruce Baillie created a blog for the residents of Nava Ade home owners association. His impetus is the demise of the Nava Ade website's forum. As Bruce says, "there are only two other places to be heard and that is the Board meetings, where you are limited to 2 minutes, or you also can speak at the Homeowners meetings, if you want to stand in front of a large group and sound like a whiner."
The Evangelical Ecologist Don Bosch is a a Defense Department environmentalist living in San Diego. Spent a year in Yuma. Typically covers ecology and environmental policy affecting folks in the Southwest U.S., from an evangelical perspective, and also covers national/global eco-issues as well. As his site succinctly describes it: "a Christian Ecoblog - 'Cause the world isn't ours to mess up. [Ps 24:1]".
Reader Jen Waller offers a couple of blogs: Bumper Sticker Rant covers pictures and commentary of bumperstickers from the Santa Fe area, while http://www.geocities.com/phoenixwaller/ and http://phoenixwaller.blogspot.com/ document personal interests, writings, and postings of a novel in progress.
