from The New Mexican BLOGS

So what is a blog? It's an easy way to publish your thoughts on the Web and include links to other sites you find interesting or important--without knowing a stitch of programming or other Web skills. This bloglist contains staff blogs (not endorsed by or representing The New Mexican), other blogs from around New Mexico, and blogs we've set up on the site for our own readers (read on for details on how to get your own FreeNewMexican blog).

from The New Mexican Welcome
Hello to everyone (or at least my friends who I've forced to read this).  At first, this site is going to be my nesting site just for my articles that I have written.  Later on, when I am drunk with power and adoring fans, I will then probably begin to branch out.  For the meantime, here are my articles, so you can see what I've done and how I've progressed in two years.

In case you are not a friend or family member, you will soon realize that I am an arrogant SOB and I do believe that in ten years I will be a prominent reporter for either the LA Times or ESPN.

from The New Mexican Shoring Up Public Welfare
Since 1985, NM has had a law on the books requiring the transfer of water to consider the impact on "public welfare." Only problem is, no one's defined what that is. Now Taos is attempting to do so.

from The New Mexican Can water lose interest?
Polar bears last gasps, Colorado predicts needing a lot more water in its pipes, and an old book about a Colorado ranch is worth reading for a broader view on where and why NM may be headed down the wrong path.

The New Mexico xeriscaping conference is set for Feb with some great speakers, how about rubber in your mulch, and a district court judge dismisses and MRGCD case against a board member.

from The New Mexican Rancho Viejo fights for water
Rancho Viejo spent too much money on some Belen water rights to give up without a fight when the State Engineer denied the transfer up to SF County, but there's a real reason behind the SEO policy that developers should pay attention to. Maybe.

from The New Mexican What happened to outrage in America?
This blog entry is in response to a letter written by Mark Wright posted as a comment to my last blog story "Injustice still reigns supreme in Georgia". I started writing a response and realized it deserved more than just a simple note so here I am.

First of all, I want to thank Mark for taking the time to write such a great letter. Thanks Mark. For those of you who haven't read his letter, it has been reproduced herein at the bottom of this text for your convenience. I welcome comments from readers on both this subject and on the subject of Ed Kramer's seven years under house arrest without trial or conviction.

from The New Mexican Injustice still reigns supreme in Georgia
A speedy trial is guaranteed by the U.S. constitution, right?

Apparently not when it comes to Georgia. Ed Kramer, DragonCon SciFi Convention Founder, was arrested and accused of a child molestation in August, 2000. Yet he has never come to be convicted for a crime. However, he is still under house arrest today in 2007.

I fail to understand how such injustice can continue Just this evening I received a letter from a reader via email. That person identitIed themselves only as M. Hu. This person writes through eyes of anger, not with facts. He/she paint a picture that is not onlyfictitious but also assumes that Ed is guilty. No trial, no examination of evidence, just wild irrational assumptions.

As the below article by Rhetta Akamatsu points out, it is the court's duty to decide the guilt or innocence of Ed. it is not my duty, yours or family of the supposed victims.

Below is article by Rhetta originally published at www.associatedcontent.com. Note that the letter which was previously reproduced here has been removed because of liberous comments made by the reader. Note also that the letter did NOT in any way express the opinions of this writer.

from The New Mexican Science news headlines: Tackling cosmic puzzles
I happened upon this news story this afternoon.  As far as I know it only appeared in the Seattle Times.  I always find something intriguing in the idea of underground secret bases and research laboratories.  Well, I'm going to stay away from that hot topic for the moment.  Well enjoy Nick Perry's article and imagine the possibilities of cosmic puzzles being unraveled underground!

from The New Mexican New helmet law...Why protect the ignorant?

Starting July 1, our wonderful state will make it mandatory for everyone under the age of 18 to wear a helmet for such activities including bicycling, skateboarding, roller blading and yes, even riding a tricycle.  Am I the only person in this state to think that this is just another ridiculous law in the long line of dumb policies set up to protect those who are to stupid to take care of themselves?  Essentially, the government is stepping in again to raise the youth instead of letting the parents do their job.  Before anybody automatically goes off their rocker and thinks I'm a completely insensitive person, let me explain why this law is asinine.

from The New Mexican Free Genarlow Wilson !
Citizens of the United States should consider what they would do had they been jailed for consensual sex in high school. While I am not condoning such behaviour, I find jailing our young - for being human - completely abhorrent. Where will the puritanical hypocracy end?
