SILVER CITY, N.M. - Two new films are coming to New Mexico.
One is a big-budget movie based on a true story starring Academy Award winners Charlize Theron, Sissy Spacek and Frances McDormand. The other was written by a former New Mexican.
For the star-studded film, Warner Bros. is cooperating with Phelps Dodge Mining Co. to shoot a major part of the movie in the Chino and Cobre mines in southwest New Mexico.
"It means hundreds of high-wage jobs, new opportunities and millions of dollars for the Silver City and Grant County economies," Gov. Bill Richardson said Wednesday. "Our industry-leading incentives, eager and qualified work force, and the unequaled beauty of New Mexico continue to fuel the growth and success of our film industry."
The film will tell the story of a group of female Minnesota miners who successfully file a sexual harassment and discrimination lawsuit against a mining company. The landmark 1984 lawsuit changed sexual harassment laws.
The film is expected to bring at least 120 crew jobs and jobs for 500 acting extras.
The second film, "First Snow," was co-written by Mark Fergus, a former Albuquerque resident. Fergus will direct the picture and Guy Pearce will star. Filming will begin next year.
