The Poetry Slam, which started in 1990 in San Francisco, is a competition between performance poets -- artists who mix lyrics and rhymes with drama and comedy. The 5-member Santa Fe team competed at 9 p.m. Wednesday at Gorilla Tango, a comedy club. If the team did well, they could make it to the slam finals, which will be held Saturday from 8 to 11:30 p.m. at the Kiva Auditorium.
The poetry slam features 75 teams and is the largest team performance poetry event in the world.
